The 19-year-old swimmer from the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho maintained good speed in the last 50 m section, clocking 2:13:87 to finish ahead of Andreeva Viktoriia of Russia. She broke a World Games record set in 2009 by Italy’s Segat Francesca.

Victoriia won the silver medal after finishing 0.09s behind, followed by China’s Zhu Yingying with 2:16:73.

However, Vien could not repeat her best result of 2:12:33 which she recorded at the FINA World Cup in Russia in August.

In June, Vien clocked 2:13:53 at the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

Earlier on October 7, Vien won a bronze medal in women’s 800m freestyle.

The 6th Military World Games is being held by the International Military Sports Council (CISM) in Mungyeong, South Korea from October 2-11 with approximately 8,700 athletes from 110 countries and territories, competing in 22 sports.
